Spain ● Costa Calida
The Costa Calida or ‘Warm Coast’ is a largely unspoilt region that lies between the Costa Blanca to the north and Costa de Almeria to the south and, just like the Costa Blanca, the Costa Calida shares the title as one of the healthiest living climates in the world. Enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 22°C. The main Mediterranean coast stretches over 170 km of heavenly beaches with endless white sand, lively ports and wild coves with crystal clear water, alternating with the rocky shores and impressive cliffs. Nature’s gift is La Manga, a narrow coastal strip of land which almost completely closes off the remarkable Mar Menor, Europe's largest saltwater lagoon and without doubt, a real delight for water sports enthusiasts.
Murcia is the ancient capital of
the region and sits on the banks of the Rio Segura; Cartagena
is a historic Mediterranean city and was a strategic port; Lorca is the town of
a Hundred Coats of Arms and Caravaca is the Holy Town
and all are worth a visit.
The surrounding countryside is scattered with classic Spanish windmills and
despite the generally arid climate, is dominated with lush farmland and mature
palms.
The inland areas of the Murcia region are ideal for those
in search of relaxation, nature, sport and good food. The mountains here are
full of woodland and wild game, and crowned with castles and fortresses.
